I was not disappointed. This is a smart and powerful collection from the hand of a skilled writer who isn't afraid to take risks. Bosse's stories touch on many deep issues, but he achieves this without being overly reflective or forcing it upon the reader. These stories are at once developed and succinct, with rich characters and rewarding scenes. In each story, Bosse pulls the reader into the lives of the characters, making us feel their mistakes, heartbreaks, and confusions.

The stories aren't necessarily connected, but they flow fluidly together, and the collection definitely works as a whole. It's a collection filled with emotion, humor, and just the right amount of bizarreness. It's hard to pick a favorite, but I'd probably go with "The Master of Submission. I couldn't get into the stories because you barely got to know the characters and then it was over. Most of the stories attempted to reach for that MFA workshop standard of saying something both familiar and disturbing , both common and profound, but in so aspiring what it succeeded in doing the most was to bore me and keep me at a distance emotionally. All the stories were well craf I got this book for free on a kindle special, so I felt obliged to finish it, even though it took me a long time.

All the stories were well crafted, but none of them jumped out at me as being fresh in content or in style. This collection of short- some very, very short- stories roams all over the map, but they are all disturbing. Some depict monstrous people.

I enjoyed some, found some unpleasant and creepy, but they all held my attention This was such a pleasure to read. It's been a while since I've read something with such deliberate and descriptive prose.
