It is written in strict sonata-allegro form, with three movements. The sonata was composed for a performance he would give with fellow pianist Josephine von Aurnhammer. Mozart composed this in the galant style, with interlocking melodies and simultaneous cadences.
This is one of his only formal compositions written exclusively for two pianos. This sonata was also used in the scientific study that tested the theory of the Mozart Effect, suggesting that classical music increases brain activity more positively than other kinds of music. The sonata is written in three movements, 1. Allegro con spirito 2.
The first movement begins in D major, and sets the tonal center with a strong introduction. The two pianos divide the main melody for the exposition, and when the theme is presented both play it simultaneously. Mozart spends little time in the development introducing a new theme unlike most sonata forms, and begins the recapitulation, repeating the first theme. The entire second movement is played Andante, in a very relaxed pace. The melody is played with both pianos, but there is no strong climax in this movement. It is written in a strict ABA form. Molto Allegro begins with a galloping theme.
The cadences used in this movement are similar to those in Mozart's Rondo alla Turca. According to the British Epilepsy Organization, research has suggested that Mozart's K can have the "Mozart effect", in that listening to the piano sonata improved spatial reasoning skills and reduce the number of seizures in people with epilepsy. It was determined to have the "Mozart effect", by the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine because it was similar to Mozart's K in tempo, structure, melodic and harmonic consonance and predictability.

Although originally written for basset clarinet, it is almost always played on a clarinet in A or B-flat.
It was Mozart's only completed clarinet quintet, and is one of the earliest and best-known works written especially for the instrument. It remains exceptionally popular today due to its lyrical melodies, with the second movement the best known. A fragment of score exists for a second though possibly written first clarinet quintet in B-flat, of which a complete exposition survives.
It is possible that Mozart completed the movement, as the score continues into the development section on the last surviving page. This fragment is unlikely to be a sketch, as it bears no marks of correction. Nevertheless, the A major quintet is Mozart's sole surviving complete work for clarinet quintet. The composer indicated that the work was finished on 29 September This quintet is sometimes referred to as the Stadler Quintet; Mozart so described it in a letter of April It consists of four movements: Both are in the same key of A major and were written for the same soloist, Anton Stadler.

There is a direct quotation of two bars in the clarinet line in the second movement of the Concerto of that in the Quintet. Mozart also wrote a trio for clarinet, viola and piano for Stadler, the so-called Kegelstatt Trio, in His Character and Work, page notes that while the clarinet "predominates as primus inter pares" first amongst equals this is nonetheless "chamber music work of the finest kind" and the roles are distributed more equally than they would be in a more concertante quintet for wind and strings.
A subplot of the episode has one of the main characters, Major Charles Winchester, teaching the piece to a group of Chinese prisoners of war. The earliest sonatas are very much in the galant style of W. It was one of three subscription concerts given that spring and was probably played by Mozart himself at one of these. The concerto is scored for piano solo and an orchestra consisting of one flute, two clarinets, two bassoons, two horns and strings. In Mozart's later works the wind instruments are equal to the stringed instruments, and this is also the case in this concerto. It has three movements: Allegro in A major and common time. Allegro assai in A and alla breve in later editions, the tempo is listed as Presto.
The first movement is mostly sunny and positive with the occasional melancholic touches typical of Mozart pieces in A major and is in sonata form. The piece begins with a double exposition, the first played by the orchestra, and the second when the piano joins in. The first exposition is static from a tonal point of view and is quite concise, the third theme is not yet revealed. The second exposition includes the soloist and is modulatory. It is also includes the third previously unheard third theme. The second exposition is ornamented as opposed to the first exposition which is not.
The second theme has harmonic tension. This is expressed by dissonances that are played on the beat, and then solved by an interval of a second going downwards.
The programme continues with one of the greatest composers of the Romantic era, Johannes Brahms. His second trio, composed in Vienna between and , boasts endless treasures, and Brahms' incomparable talent as a chamber musician makes itself heard. The arrangement for trio is by Eduard Steuermann. The composer follows the structure and content of the poem in the music. This programme is a suitable length for a concert with an interval. This innovative programme is built around one of the masterpieces of the chamber music genre: The Khaldei Trio is always searching for imaginative programmes in which well-known works appear alongside their lesser-known counterparts.
In addition to this trio, they offer the magnificent music of Belgian composers Frits Celis and Joseph Jongen. Called to the battlefront in , Maurice Ravel wrote this remarkable work in a great hurry. In a letter to Stravinsky, he confided that this hurried departure pushed him to write in 5 weeks a work that should have taken 5 months. Two early works of Belgian composers complete the programme. Flashbacks to German romanticism and French impressionism are scattered throughout this great work, which is in three movements.
Unfortunately, the music of Frits Celis is often underappreciated and not played enough. The Khaldei Trio wants to give this Belgian composer the place he deserves. Frits Celis wrote his Trio in This fifth opus — one of his first compositions — already contains all of the qualities to be found in his later works: When the Jongen trio is played in its entirety, this programme is suitable for the duration of an evening concert. The Khaldei Trio also proposes an alternative for a concert of 60 minutes length, in which only the second movement of the Jongen Trio is played between the Celis and Ravel trios.
Much like Evgueni Khaldei, Dmitri Shostakovich often found himself in a delicate position in the face of the soviet regime. This is a virtuosic programme filled with emotion.
