Wicked Intentions: The Sheila LaBarre Murders -- A True Story

The author mostly writes as a journalist in a clear, concise manner--I like that in a true crime book. Appropriate analysis is presented, but is never boring. The one weakness I found is minor--numerous accounts of police visits to LeBare's farm to view bones and fires. The accounts are bloated and cover the same information.

I got a little bored. Still, I highly recommend this book. One person found this helpful. This was kind of a bitter sweet story for me as I was a patient of Dr Wilfred LaBarre for many years along with my children too!! Sheila was the receptionist and now I read this and think of her and I cringe! Great read, bad subject! Can't believe a human being can be so horrific when her "husband" was committed to helping others live a long healthy and pain free life!

He was a wonderful man!

He is missed by many!!! I have read this book all the way through with a personal interest as I lived in the state of NH and knew many of the places Mr. Flynn talks about - and even followed the news story through a paper in Dover from my current residence in NC. I have to say that truth is stranger than fiction. I was disgusted by her actions, felt for her victims and their families, and came to the same conclusion as the jury - guilty and sane. As for other more negative reviewers, yes I believe Mr. Flynn needs to have a little more editing done, and a bit of help in following when he changes from the trial to the investigation or into background information.

Maybe this could even be done by using a different font style. I felt the chaos of the book fed into making me the reader feel a little of the insanity that was Sheila - and also how Mr. Flynn and the investigators must have felt working this case. I do wish some more of the in-depth findings were revealed, and felt that some of the book was rushed to get it into print quickly.

However, for his first venture into writing true crime, well done Mr. Flynn - my first true crime book I read and one I couldn't put down. Not the most well written account of a true crime story. Truly horrifying personality, wish it had been more richly developed.

Still would recommend to anyone who enjoys true life psychologically driven crime stories. Mass Market Paperback Verified Purchase. This book was so compelling that I could not put it down and read it in one day. This is a true story of an evil and vicious woman named Sheila LaBarre. She was a beautiful woman who had no trouble attracting men. She sought out submissive young men who she could easily control physically and psychologically. She was a cunning and cruel woman, who like many psychopaths, could be charming and could easily con people into doing things for her.

The author, who befriended Sheila, weaves this horror story in a professional and interesting way. This is a well-written and thoroughly researched story. He tells about first meeting Sheila when she was arrested and she agreed to talk to him. He understood how many people could be conned by her charming ways. The young men she seduced and convinced to move in with her were all easy marks for her evil plans. Her attorneys attempted to use the insanity defense, but the jury did not buy it. This is a story of a truly evil and twisted woman who dominated and killed her victims without mercy or regret.

If you desire to better understand the mind of a psychopath, this is a must read book. Can't believe a human being can be so horrific when her "husband" was committed to helping others live a long healthy and pain free life!

In conclusion, this is a book every law enforcement officer and anyone else interested in the true nature of evil needs to read. Good book, some stuff in it that I didn't already know, from not just the news but from one dumb friend that spent too much time with her and another that knew to just leave. I love how all the homicidal maniacs claim God has something to do with it. Another, religion made me this way, ugh. I bought the book based on a brilliant podcast I listen to "Sword and scale". Unbelievable story that actually happened, but the writer really struggles to put it together.

Should have looked for a video documentary rather.
