I found this book to be very much based on God's word and I enjoyed each chapter as a devotion. I look forward to re-reading this many more times and adopting Ms. Coulter's vision of seeing God at work in our lives through everyday encounters and experiences. This is a nice little collection of essays with a spiritual undertone, written around experiences with or observations of nature which serve quite well in the waiting rooms of doctors and other such places.
There is an ongoing uplifting message here that is highly beneficial. It's not unlike "Pilgrim at Tinker Creek" and as a friend described that book long ago, shallow and deep all at the same time.
Lynn Coulter is one of those rare people who have the skill to weave together beautiful examples of God's love for us and pertinent scriptures into her stories about every day life and the people who have had a positive influence. She writes as if she is talking to her best friend, telling about things that she has seen and done, and does it in such a way that you feel you were right there with her. Her writing takes you beyond the story, to reflect on God's Word and His promises for us. Your spirit will be uplifted and refreshed by reading "Little Mercies"!
I used parts of it in a Ladies' Bible Study. Ms Coulter's insights have opened our eyes to more of the many little blessings God scatters over our lives everyday. One person found this helpful. The author talks about forgiveness being a gift and that we must forgive others.
Streetlight Dog is the story of a stray dog that the author tried to befriend. I finished the rest of the book after I got home. Normally, I drag my way through nonfiction, taking several days—sometimes weeks—to work my way through it. You will be glad you did. Nov 09, Beth rated it really liked it Shelves: This was a really enjoyable read. Coulter's writing style is very conversational. I felt as if she were talking with me over a cup of coffee on opposite ends of a cozy couch.
I really appreciated the reminders about how God's goodness can be found in the seemingly insignificant instances of our every day lives.
