Howecver, simply adding another confirmation to a prior review would not do this book justice. Therefore, I felt compelled to write a seperate review. Without this book, I would not have passed Con Law.
This is indeed an excellent book in that it puts the different parts of the subject into context. The author does a great job of clearly trying to explain what the reasoning is behind the concepts and how the whole subject is supposed to fit together. Unlike most other books, the author actually is successful in doing this - so by the time a chapter is finished, the reader has a very good grasp of the topic.
This book is the best law book that I have ever read. The cases are interesting and well abbreviated. The best part though - the notes before and after the cases. Chemerinsky does a great job of explaining what is going on. Instead of giving you ambiguous answers and rhetorical questions, this book actually explains the law. I will buy the next edition when it comes out, even though I will be out of law school.
That's how good it is. This book should be standard at all schools, and should be the model for legal education text. See all 14 reviews. Most recent customer reviews. The book includes substantial amounts of nonjudicial interpretation alongside judicial interpretation, and historical materials, including drafting and ratifying history, early congressional practice, etc. If I have piqued your curiosity at all, you can download a sample assignment on the drafting of the 14th Amendment , or the introductory assignment on the background to the adoption of the Constitution , as well as the Table of Contents.

Now, I am too afraid of becoming a law-professor cliche to say: In the age of Trump, this kind of casebook is needed more than ever. It should be taught in law schools. This is also a time when the Supreme Court itself is taking an increasing turn to text and history, and I suspect that will continue with the newest appointment to the court. So we may be able to improve upon casebooks whose organizing premises date to the Warren and Burger courts.
