I found this book to be a truly well written and truthful account of an amazing adventure. I started reading it and could not put it down, I really couldn't wait to read the next adventure or mishap.

I highly recommend this book!! Few other books I've read ebb and flow like Dillon's first. His account of motoring across southern Europe evokes the highs and lows of solo travel brilliantly: The occasional flashback, the brief pause to record impressions of a book - The Itinerant reads unevenly. Yet what the book lacks by way of the tangible, axial thesis found in the best autobiographies it makes up for in sheer peripatetic energy.

Dillon's thoughts phase in and out with the changing vistas and people he encounters, and the manic energy of his thinking makes up for an overall lack of cohesion. Dillon's account defies categorization. To call it a travelogue belies its central romantic thrust, and it contains far too many musing, meandering asides to be a cogent work of personal philosophy. Reading it is a rush, a recollection of one's headiest intellectual fantasies. This book is a tonic against ordinary living, however insufferable it may be at times. Just get it and read it already. Carroll's adventure is full of romance, philosophy, musings, literature, and longings, and dances among all of them just as quickly as does his story among travel, culture, language, misfortune, joy, and hope.
Carroll's sincerity and vulnerability leave you at the end of his account with a distinct sense that you have come to know him better than many authors allow their readers. That is truly his gift, not necessarily an impeccable writing style or singularly thematic message, but his ability to, simply, connect. He connects with people and with places, with stories and with cultures Carroll's telling is certainly not one to be skipped. Your recently viewed items and featured recommendations. Most helpful customer reviews on Amazon. I do not read romances very frequently unless Sophie Kinsella counts , but for some reason this book and series was recommended to me on Amazon, and for some reason I purchased the first book. It's set in such great locations, and the characters are just so fun, fluffy, funny, and I dare say that Jeremy is the book version of Hugh Dancy, and may be the closest I've ever come to having a crush on a fictional character.

I dare say this book is very predictable, and certainly puddles in Manhattan after a summer thunderstorm are deeper than the entire book, but that's one of the reasons it's just so good. You breeze through the pages, and it's not often I laugh out loud or find myself championing for a character, but I was rooting for Penny Nichols and Jeremy the whole time! It was and still is just a little creepy that the very romantic tension between the two of them began well before they find out they are not first cousins by blood again that was easily predictable , but I just shoved that part out of my mind, and wished that I was Penny and having the time of my life.
The villains are fun, and just bad enough for a light hearted romp. My recommendation is to buy them all at the same time and you will probably be done after a few days at the beach. Take them on a vacation with you, and you won't be sorry. I hope there are more to the series, but if not I will be so glad I found these little gems!
This is a fun caper tale, full of banter, laughter and the true meaning of family.
Penny the heroine is a likeable modern working girl who decides to live her life to the fullest once she receives her various legacies and Jeremy, her partner in childhood crime is her perfect foil. This is a good choice for lovers of screwball comedies.

I enjoy the combinations of unlikely love, knowledge of antiques, European settings and mystery. There are always interesting characters to add color to the storyline. I think they are enjoyable, light reading.
