A wide range of teaching methods will be used including: The course is underpinned by current research in the various s pecialised fields and newly evolving areas within the discipline. We will explore different ways that effective leadership and project management can significantly contribute to wealth creation, competitiveness and the advancement of society.
Some of the real-life projects produced in the past have included the development of a project management app on an android platform and creation of a temperature adjustable jacket. Videos of some of these projects are available on our YouTube channel. An optional industrial project module has been included within the programme, enabling you to apply for a student internship in the third semester of the full-time course or in the third year of the part-time course, though this will depend on both the availability of places and suitability of candidates.
In the past, internship students have carried out research on topics such as the implementation of a new project strategy for Foods Limited and analysis of the project design operations of a bespoke industrial controls solution provider, for example. The individual project gives you the opportunity to do in depth research in your chosen area of specialisation alongside an experienced academic supervisor who will guide and advise you. Previous students have chosen to investigate a diverse range of subject areas — from the influence of leadership styles on successful delivery of engineering projects and the effect of organisational cultural differences or employee motivation on project outcomes to the development of processes to eliminate risks in outsourcing oil and gas projects in Brunei and the impact of current public procurement practices on public construction projects in Bangladesh.
Achievement of learning outcomes in most taught modules is assessed by a combination of group work, in-class tests, written-reports and presentations. The learning outcomes of modules, assignments and projects will be clearly stated in advance and your work will be marked according to how well you achieve these learning outcomes. This generally breaks down as follows:.
